| Bio: | Kratos Aurion enters the story of Tales of Symphonia very early as a traveling mercenary, appearing on the day of the oracle and saving the life of the Chosen One, Colette Brunel, and her friends Lloyd Irving and Genis Sage. Colette had come to the temple to receive her “Cruxis Crystal” and begin her journey. Upon his arrival, Lloyd notices that Kratos has what is called an Exsphere attached to his hand… a small gem that brings out one’s maximum strength. Lloyd himself has one, but is still not nearly on Kratos’s level of skill. As the priests that were to accompany Colette were killed by her attackers, the Desians, Kratos is hired to protect her, and Lloyd and Genis tag along as well. After a visit from Remiel, an Angel of Cruxis, Colette becomes the official Chosen and the Tower of Salvation appears on the horizon. Kratos and Colette then head back to the village, Iselia, with Lloyd and Genis soon following. The next day, Colette, Kratos, and Raine (Genis’s older sister) leave to begin the Journey of Regeneration, leaving Lloyd and Genis behind to keep them safe. However, Genis catches up to them in Triet, the desert town, and tells them that Lloyd has been kidnapped by Desians. The group breaks into the Desian base in the desert and face off with Botta, who they encountered back at the temple. After escaping, Lloyd and Genis tell the group that they have no choice but to tag along, as they’ve been banished from Iselia for breaking its non-aggression pact with the Desians and helping an inmate of the Iselia Human Ranch. The new group of Lloyd, Genis, Colette, Kratos, and Raine sets out, unlocking the seals across the land as Colette is slowly transformed into an angel. During this time, Kratos becomes something of a mentor to Lloyd, and teaches him how to fight for more effectively. The group also invades several of the Desian Human Ranches along their quest. Lloyd and Genis first deal with the one in Iseila and its Grand Cardinal, Forcystus, but they do no damage. The group destroys the Palmacosta Human Ranch (literally…. Raine sets it to self destruct) and kills its Cardinal, Magnius. Later on, they join up with Sheena, an assassin who has been trying to kill Colette, to invade the Asgard Ranch. Here, they once again find Botta, who seems to be trying to escape from the Ranch. After his exit, the Cardinal, Kvar, appears, and is displeased that Botta the “Renegade” has gotten away. During this visit, the group also learns that Exspheres are made from human lives, and Lloyd learns that his is the life of his mother. It is also a special Exsphere, made as part of Kvar’s “Angelus Project” to be given to the Desians’ leader, Yggdrasill. Sheena helps the group escape. Later on, they invade the ranch again, but the group must split up. One must unlock the gate to Kvar while the other enters. Lloyd goes after Kvar to avenge his mother, and Kratos, surprisingly, nearly begs to join him. In the fight, Colette takes a hit for Lloyd, and Kratos slices Kvar multiple times before finally impaling him on his sword. Lloyd too then impales the Cardinal, and he dies. Raine destroys this Ranch as well. After unlocking all the seals, the group is told to go to the Tower of Salvation. Sheena then explains why she was trying to kill Colette: she is, in fact, from another world known as Tethe’alla. If Colette, the Chosen of Sylvarant, starts the Regeneration, the mana that Sylvarant gains will be siphoned directly out of Tethe’alla. She was sent to stop that from happening. However, upon seeing the oppression and poverty of people in Sylvarant, she doesn’t know what to do. The next day, the group heads for the Tower of Salvation via transport dragons, and Kratos and Colette’s dragon arrives first. When Lloyd and co arrive, Colette has already begun the ritual with Remiel. By this point, Colette is unable to taste, feel, sleep, or speak, each one lost with a seal. At this one, she will die, forget everything, and be reborn as an angel. Lloyd tries to stop her, but she goes through with it, and becomes a soulless, angelic doll. At this point, Remiel begins laughing, and taunts Lloyd’s party, saying that he’s “finally done it” and that with this perfect vessel for the goddess, he will be promoted to one of Cruxis’s Four Seraphim. He declares that he has no more use for Lloyd and co, calls them “inferior beings” in the way that the Desians do, and attacks them. After they manage to defeat the angel, Kratos appears. Remiel addresses him as “Lord Kratos” and begs for mercy. Kratos reminds Remiel that he, Kratos, was once human as well, and taunts him for begging for help from that which he despises the most. Lloyd asks Kratos where he’s been, and Kratos reveals the truth. In a flash of light, transparent blue wings of mana appear on his back, similar to Colette’s pink ones, and he reveals that he is Kratos, one of Cruxis’s Four Seraphim, sent forth to keep close watch over the Chosen. He fights with the group, and is just barely beaten. Lloyd, however, notices that he was holding back. Then, Yggdrasill, Cruxis’s leader, appears and easily bests the group. As he is about to kill them, Botta appears and saves their lives. Kratos and Yggdrasill return to Cruxis’s base in the skies. Lloyd and co make it to Tethe’alla, where they join up with Zelos Wilder, Tethe’alla’s playboy Chosen, Presea Combatir, a 12 year old girl with immense strength who seems almost exactly like Colette’s soulless self, and Regal Bryant, an extremely noble convict who refuses to ever remove his cuffs, and fights with his feet instead. As they go through several goals, most importantly having Sheena make pacts with all the Summon Spirits of both worlds to sever all the mana links and allowing the Great Seed to grow into the tree of mana once more and stop the battle for mana, they encounter Kratos seemingly wandering about, gathering random items. When they are about to form the pact with the final Summon Spirit, he tries to stop them but is too late. Their plan horribly backfires, and the Tree grows into a twisted form that devastates both worlds. Kratos briefly rejoins the party to stop it, helping Lloyd kill Forcystus back at the Iselia Ranch. He then returns to Cruxis once more. Later, while staying a dwarf friend of the group in Tethe’alla, some of the biggest secrets are revealed. Yuan, one of Cruxis’s Seraphim, but also the known leader of the Renegades that oppose Cruxis and aid Lloyd every now and then, takes Lloyd hostage. Kratos is present as well, and Yuan tells him to “release the seal, or watch his son die.” Lloyd doesn’t believe it, but then Yuan attempts to kill him, and Kratos takes the hit. Lloyd is nearly driven into despair by the fact that his real father is the one that betrayed them all. Colette comes out and encourages him, but then Mithos, a young boy the group had befriended, comes out of the house and effortlessly kills Yuan’s soldiers before knocking aside Yuan himself. Suddenly, he rapidly grows and reveals himself to be Mithos Yggdrasill, the hero in the ancient legend and the leader of Cruxis. It is also learned that on his quest 4000 years ago, his companions were none other than his sister Martel (who is the one he is trying to revive with Colette’s body), Yuan, and Kratos himself. The “Four Seraphim” of Cruxis are the ancient heroes. He then leaves with Kratos. When the group finally defeats Yggdrasill, Kratos appears and says that their quest isn’t over yet. If they wish to reunite the worlds, they must defeat him in order to release the seal on Origin, the king of Summon Spirits, so that he may grant Lloyd the ability to use the Eternal Sword that split the world in the first place. Deep within Torent Forest, Lloyd and Kratos duel at Origin’s seal, and Lloyd wins. When he spares Kratos, the seraph releases his body’s mana to unleash Origin. Yuan appears and gives some of his own mana to save his old friend’s life. Mithos then appears and takes Colette’s body, and disappears to Derris-Kharlan, the comet of mana that acted at Cruxis’s home. He also destroys the Tower of Salvation, the only way to access it. Kratos, too weak from the duel to help, gives Lloyd his sword, and tells his son to stop Mithos. He stays with Lloyd’s adoptive father as the group has a final face-off with Cruxis’s leader and reunites the worlds. In the aftermath, Lloyd decides to travel the new world with Colette to collect all the Exspheres and destroy them so that no more lives are lost to them. Kratos decides to go to Derris-Kharlan before it drifts away, and stay with it as punishment for his actions. He feels it to be his duty as a survivor of Cruxis. He promises to discard all of Cruxis’s Exspheres into space, as well. Lloyd doesn’t think he should go, but sends him to the mana comet with the Eternal Sword anyway, finally calling him “Dad” and wishing him farewell.
